Re: Is it safe to use the mogul as modem??

Depends on the traffic you plan to do with it.

For casual e-mail checking/ low bandwidth stuff, it works great. There are parts on campus that don't have wireless, hence this little baby comes in handy.

Youtube and streaming sites, however, it might tip off Sprint to what you are doing, though I only watch Youtube on my Mogul and not using the wireless part of it.

Re: Is it safe to use the mogul as modem??

Just curious. Has there been any PPCgeek forum members that have "gotten the attention of Sprint" for using too much data?

I've always heard about the "don't use too much data" warning but has anyone actually gotten a warning from Sprint or charged for it?

x10, no not that i've heard of directly. though i dont have sero, i use my mogul excluesively as my source of internet connection for my laptop... so i KNOW i'm killin the data usage, but i also have unlimited data... so if you go to a buffet do you only eat one plate?? lol

PDAphones like the Mogul = no

Featurephone teathering, like the A900, RAZR etc = Yeah you'll see warnings.

Funny Samsung UpStage users don't catch heat either if their NAI & whatnot is disabled. Must be data intensive as well...

Re: Is it safe to use the mogul as modem??

I have the SERO plan with Sprint and tether with it. I've downloaded files/streamed video with it. I know I've gone through a good amount of data with it. I use WMWifiRouter or USBModem. I'd use it more often but my high-speed at home has a must faster upload rate. However, I use way more data through GPS in Google Maps. I've used as high as 2MB/s before messing with the satellite and traffic views, zooming in and out while moving on the highway. I've never received any additional charges on my bill. As long as you make the right registry edits, I doubt you'll get caught for tethering.

So is this an Urban Legend?

I've heard it soooo many times from various people... but it's always
"they heard... that Sprint does this to heavy data users"
