Refurb or looked over..

One of my replacements is a refurb. I can see 3 wires behind the screen, looks like veins. and I have the "white spot" on lower left. The case is dull and shows all the seams. The LCD is anti-glare and gray, instead of glossy and dark.

My Send and End button were scraped, as if previous owner dropped and slid the phone slightly on the floor or used fine steel wool (brillo) pad to clean them. 2 nicks on the dpad, as well as 1 on the wifi button.

At least this refurb has a working wifi button, dpad, and doesn't freeze after soft resets, compared to my previously "new" one.

Re: Refurb luck?

Well mine is about 2 weeks old and im going to try to take good care of mine and hope it doesn't self destruct. I bought it brand new off a dealer on Ebay for $250. I didn't believe it was brand new until I got it and went into the lifetime counter and the date of manufacture is 21 March 2008. So I bought it flashed to cricket already full up everything, I have since reflashed it with the black pill. and Alltel Rom and radio.

But what I like most about it is unlimited talk text pics and web for $50 a month. without a contract. I mean its month to month, worse case scenario I don't like it and I can flash it to work on another carrier. I don't know what the going rate for one is under contract, but I don't think that $250 brand new for no contract is all that bad.

I just tested 909 kb/sec on EVDO. I don't think its a bad deal. You can run for 4 months on cricket for just what it costs in termination fees with the big 4 carriers.

Re: Refurb luck?

I must say that I am impressed.

I called Asurion this morning and explained the situation. Didn't take any arguing or me even suggesting anything to get a brand new in box Mogul sent. I should have it by Thursday. I explained the situation to the rep I spoke to when the call first came in and she transferred me a "resolutions specialist" and she had me off the phone in less than 5 minutes with a smile. She actually had me laughing because she said she saw my last name and that she's old and she just had to laugh. I got a good chuckle out of it.

In either case, I must give Asurion props. HTC's refurb process is crap but Asurion really did step up to the plate for me!

Re: Refurb luck?

I had a problem with my Mogul a few months back and had it replaced in the store. I think it was a warranty replacement. They order a new unit and it came in the next day. It was clearly a refurb but it has held up for 5 months without issue.

Overall I can't complain.

Re: Refurb luck?

I just seem to have really bad luck with refurbs. I almost left Sprint last year because they couldn't seem to get me a working 6700. Refurb, refurb, refurb, new 6800. And that was after having a flawless 6700 for ten months.

Re: Refurb luck?

So I went on another thread and saw that if you call asurion and tell them you want an upgrade because you've had several of your phone, you could actually get it. I did it and went from my beloved 6700 to a refurb 6800, when I got it I could tell it was a ppcgeeks graduate as one of the themes installed on it was "hitman". So when I get it I notice a light mark on the screen, it must have been replaced. Then I notice that the battery dies in half a day, I mean I use my phone heavily but not that heavily. Then I notice that when I get text messages, leave the phone alone for too long, or just about anything; the screen will go off and will not come on. The phone would be on although nothing would work but the led's would blink, so I would have to reset causing me to loose any new texts or calls. So I called asurion back and they told me they would send me a new phone in the box. I don't think this story is typical of the refurbs, in fact they told me the phone was on back order but I recieved mine right away which leads me to believe that they just forgot to finish the refurb on that one which is why it didn't work.

In the past when I've gotten refurb 6700s I havent had much trouble except the time that they sent me one with no radio.

So I guess it does happen often enough then.

Re: Refurb luck?

So i bit the bullet. I went to pay my sprint bill at the old sprint repair store. They recently kept telling me that the titan was out of stock and on back order, so it had been a month in waiting, but lucky me, i asked about it and they had a phone ready for me.

Now, first off, i installed nochems 5066 rom, and it seems that the dialer is a no go for ##data#, so i cant find out if my phone is infact a refurb (correct me if that the wrong number please). The phone came out of a white box and TBH, it has no physical signs of ware... maybe just a little one, on the bottom of the screen, like before the lip, i can look down and see some dried glue (?). Also, the screen is even less flushed than my old titan, so it might just be refurb, but once again, no noticeable signs besides.

Im posting to say that I AM SO HAPPY NOW! Its like i have my phone soul back! After installing 5066 on my phone, its like i have a mogul 2.0. I had been using sprints latest rom before now because it was the only one i could flash too off my memory card and with my radio being too new. I thought they might give me a problem because i couldnt take off oli pro, but all was good!

Guys, the refurbs arent that bad, atleast for me and my only adventure with one.

Re: Refurb luck?

You definitely got a refurb.

Go to Advanced Settings in 5066's Programs menu, then click EPST config. Click View and you've got the EPST dump that will show you refurb status.

But I'm glad you're happy with yours.
