soft reset help

Im new at this so please bare with me, i bought my mogul from a buddy about a week ago and im trying to sync it with my pc, i downloaded active sync from microsft and i hook it up and nothing happens ive tried everything, someone told me to do a soft reset, what will that do and will my contacts or pictures or anything be lost?

No, it's just like restarting your PC.

How do i go about doing it?

Use the tip of the stylus, insert/press the black hole on the bottom-side of the phone under the microSD slot and there you have a soft-reset.
