that's what I'm doing too and that's killing my battery. I'd love to know how to do push email with yahoo!mail or gmail.

Re: Annoyance with push email

As fas as I know you cannot use the push method to get email from free email providers such as Gmail and Yahoo because they do not offer it. Unless you used a proxy mail server that checked your Gmail or Yahoo email and then pushed it to your PPC, it isn't going to happen until Gmail or Yahoo offers it.

Exchange works differently in that you setup a partnership in ActiveSync on the PPC to automatically have new emails pushed to it. In other words, Exchange lets the PPC know when there is new email, where with Gmail and Yahoo, the PPC has to check for new messages.

Re: Annoyance with push email

I used to have that problem when I used POP but now that I switched to IMAP it went away.

Re: Annoyance with push email

I went into my gmail settings and disappled POP and enabled IMAP. I followed gmails following:
Windows Mobile 6

To configure IMAP for your Windows Mobile 6 device, just follow these steps:
  1. Enable IMAP in your Gmail settings.
  2. Open the Start menu and select Programs > Messaging > New E-mail Account.
  3. Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') in the E-mail Address field.
  4. Uncheck the box to get settings automatically from the Internet and select Next.
  5. Select Internet e-mail as your email provider in the drop-down menu.
  6. Enter your name as you want it to appear in sent emails.
  7. Enter a descriptive name for the email account and select Next.
  8. Enter 'imap.gmail.com' in the Incoming Mail Server field.
  9. Select IMAP4 as the Account type from the drop-down menu and select Next.
  10. Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') and password.
  11. Select Next.
  12. Enter 'smtp.gmail.com' in the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server field.
  13. Make sure that the Outgoing server requires authentication box is checked.
  14. Select the Advanced Server Settings link.
  15. Make sure that the Require SSL box is checked for both incoming and outgoing emails.
  16. Select The Internet as the network connection from the drop-down menu.
  17. Select Done and then Next.
  18. Select how often you want your phone to send/receive emails from the drop-down menu.
  19. For more download options, select the Review all download settings link.
  20. Select Finish.
Problem seems to arise with step 9...I can't get the drop down menu to drop.

Did you completely delete the mail account on your Mogul and then set it up from the beginning? Because you cannot change the account type (IMAP/POP) within most email clients once it has been initially setup. I know that this is the case for the stock messaging client in WM for sure...

You need an exchange server that will push your email out to your device. Either use your employer's if they have one or use a free one like mail2web. Otherwise, if you are stuck using IMAP, just set it to check less often. I have mine check every 30 minutes and my battery is fine. It kinda hurt it when I had it set to 15 minutes but doubling the time between checks cut the battery usage in half.

Re: Annoyance with push email

using IMAP doesn't allow MS Exchange type push functionality. it only allows a better email experience like if you were using gmail directly.

so you won't see those sent messages as new messages. and if you delete emails it will goto your trash on the server like if you were using gmail directly.
