Wifi & Data Connection

I recently purchased the USCC HTC6800.
Is there any way to make the phone use the WiFi connection for anything that uses data when there is a 'connected' WiFi connection, and use the cellular data connection only when a WiFi connection is avaliable?

This is my first post, but it looks like a ton of good information here, along with programs.
I may have to get back into PPC software development and give back.

Re: Wifi & Data Connection

Would be nice to find an application that can run and control this for you.
Anyone seen anything even close to it? Maybe something that switches the connection that the applications look for a connection use, via a button instead fo bouncing through the settings, connections, etc. etc.

I'm open for anything, this is really bugging me.

Re: Wifi & Data Connection

The wireless already automatically connects doesn't it?

I guess what I see is even when I'm showing connected in WiFi listing, it is still using the cellular data connection instead of the wireless connection. I'm with USCC so it's only 1X and almost any WiFi is faster.

If i go to start>settings>connections>connections>advanced>se lect networks
and change the top one to the wifi connection instead of the "My ISP" manually it works perfect, but it doesn't switch back to the "My ISP" when a WiFi connection is terminated or is out of range. I'm looking for something to automatically switch this setting for me when a wifi connection is 'connected' and switch to "My ISP" when they are all disconnected.

Re: Wifi & Data Connection

Ok I got an idea of what your asking now but im not sure how you would do that. My phone doesn't have wifi. I saw that app and thought it might help. I think its a connection setting you have configure on your phone.

Sorry hopefully another one of the members can help with that.

Re: Wifi & Data Connection

Outback,

Make any headway on this? I'm with you, should be able to use wifi if available, then switch to broadband if not. I've tried playing with the
connection settings - but doesn't work the way you'd think. I'll keep searching the 'net...

Re: Wifi & Data Connection

The only way I've been able to disconnect the data is to use pocket toolman to disable the data connection. I know it's a pain to have to toggle back and forth but it's the only way I've been able to get the mogul to ignore the ev-do when you want to use wifi. Also, I find that if you're using Windows Live (msn and hotmail accounts), it requires the use of the EV-DO connection (it doesn't like wifi). So, if you log off Windows Live, you will find that your mogul won't use ev-do so much.

Re: Wifi & Data Connection

That's great, but even if you kill the data connection does it automatically tell IE to use the wifi connection instead?
I thought you had to manually change it to use wifi if you wanted it to.
start>settings>connections tab>connections>advanced tab>select networks & change it from "My ISP" to "My Work Network"

I'll test this out and see what I can come up with.

Re: Wifi & Data Connection

Yours may work different than mine.
If i just connect via wifi and turn the data connection off I get nothing, until I change it in the settings and then it works like a charm.

I don't have the knowledge in the code to make any programs for the PPC yet, or I would try to come up with something that does what I want. I'll see if I can find someone though.
