problem with active sync - no connection

Hi all,

I'm hooking my mogul up via a usb cable. The computer knows something is there because it does that sound when you plug in a USB key or other USB device. And when i open activesync on the pc (running xp) and go to file, connection settings, and click connect, it says it detects the device. Although when i click next on that screen, it just goes into detecting the device again. I dont see any other option to some how make a connection. Most of the other menu items are greyed out. All i really want to do is to be able to copy files to/from the phone.

Any ideas why its not working?

Oh and there's a mobile device in windows explorer, but when i click it, there's nothing there. No folders or files or anything.

Hmmm...try resetting your device and restarting your computer. I have to do this every once and a while...

Re: problem with active sync - no connection

tried that, no luck.

Do i need to set up a partnership first? I havent hooked this phone up to this PC since i installed the new rom that came out this month. I dont remember how to check the partnership stuff. Last time i think it just popped up automatically when i first plugged the phone into the pc.

Oh, and it's also not prompting me to unlock the phone. Although i guess since there's no connection being made, maybe that's why it's not prompting. Before, I used to have to enter the unlock code before i could get access to the phone over the USB connection.

thanks

Re: problem with active sync - no connection

You should be able to just plug in the phone and the computer will connect to it.

You would set up the partnership the first time you connect.

What happens when you just plug it in and do not manually open AS?

Re: problem with active sync - no connection

nothing happens. Or rather, nothing visible happens. The computer does make that noise that windows makes when ever you plug in a USB device. But other then that, nothing. The active sync icon is in the task tray, but it's gray.

One more slightly odd thing though...it seems to make that sound twice. They overlap. Like if i plugged in two usb keys a fraction of a second apart. Hmm ok one more odd thing i just found....about 30-60 seconds after making that sound, it then makes the sound when you unplug a usb device. And if i then remove the cable, it makes no sound.

Does this help on XP? I know this fixes the Vista connection issue, but I have mine checked and never had any trouble with XP...

apparently this is a common issue. if it works for you it works, if it doesnt it doesnt. "if its not broken dont mess with it"

Weird...it works both checked and unchecked for me.

Normally I always post that, but I only do it for Vista users...looks like I will add XP users to that...
