Phone powers off ?

Hey
I've recently been having a strange problem. I'll pull the phone out of my pocket, and it will be dead. I can't turn it on, and the only thing I can do is pop out the battery and then put it back in, then it works.
What could be going on?

Thanks
Joe

Re: Phone powers off ?

This could be a number of things--

1) Could simply be locking up from overheating while in your pocket. Does the same symptom occur if you don't put it in your pocket and just leave it sit on a desk or table?

2) Could be a program or setting conflict (power management usually) that could be locking it up and causing it not to wake up.

3) Many of us have seen our phones lockup while switching to/from roaming under older ROM's and PRL's. Can you fill us in on what firmware and PRL your phone is using? If you're not sure, check in Start > Settings > System > Device Information.

Usually if I have this type of oddball issue, I backup my data, do a hard reset and start from scratch. Then if it happens again, I usually know it's environmental or hardware issue. Then I change the environment (ie. pocket to desk), and if it's hardware... just get it replaced under warranty.

Re: Phone powers off ?

This can also be a symptom of a mismatch amongst the ROM, radio, and bootloader. Did you try upgrading recently?

Re: Phone powers off ?

Okay, so far it's only happened twice that day...
I'll keep my fingers crossed.
