What is the safest and most reliable way to backup data...

OK, since there are many threads with bits of info, I though I would compile them all into a poll for everyone's benefit.

I have been playing with the many different ways of backing up data and am trying to find the best way as far as convenience and reliability.

The main problem I have found with Dashwire is that changes you make are immediately reflected...therefore, if you accidentally erase a contact, odds are you won't be able to get it back from Dashwire.

So, what is the best way? Activesync to PC, Mail2Web, Funambol, Dashboard, Dashwire or PIMBackup?

If you have other combinations or suggestions, list them here.

Thanks!

-David

It backs up everything. Restoring from backup gets you right back to where you were when you saved everything.

I prefer Activesync and PPC Backup by DotFred.

Re: What is the safest and most reliable way to backup data...

I don't understand the poll. it doesn't take into account ANY of the current software backup types such as SPB Backup, SK Tools Backup, Sprite Backup.

I used to use Sprite backup but after it failed to restore a hard-reset device 3x, I moved to SPB Backup and it's been very reliable.

Yes, it can be configured in different modes as to what you want backed up, but it can back up all contacts and PIM data as well. Follow the link for more info

Re: What is the safest and most reliable way to backup data...

I am using SPB backup and love it. I tried Sprite, but un-installed since i was thoroughly un-impressed. Sprite seems to just copy your files, and places them somewhere else.
SPB actually does a compress and store.. and you can customize what you'd like to backup (PIM data only, PIM+System data, My docs, etc...)
It saved my A$$ just the other day when i did a restore after something botched up my registry to where i couldn't boot normally any longer.

Re: What is the safest and most reliable way to backup data...

Do any of these backup methods save your pop3 accounts? I'm not even worried about the messages, but I want the account details themselves backed up so I don't have to re-enter it all. (It was a lot of accounts with custom details).

I tried Activesync with Outlook 2007 but it apparently doesn't backup pop3 accounts and I have no idea which backup program will do the job.

Thanks!
