I tried Activesync with Outlook 2007 but it apparently doesn't backup pop3 accounts and I have no idea which backup program will do the job.

Thanks!
SPB is the ticket. It will save all that hard-entered data, and the emails too.

Re: What is the safest and most reliable way to backup data...

The best thing about SPB Backup is that the compressed file is an EXE. Just double-click, and your phone is restored 100% without needing to re-install any software.

The only catch is that you can only "safely" restore full backups on the same ROM. If you're upgrading your ROM, restoring an old-ROM backup, while might probably work, will cause problems.

Re: What is the safest and most reliable way to backup data...

Sprite Backup also creates a compressed backup file as a .exe file. Mine backs up to my micro-sd card every night. Its handy for full blown restores or to just pick and choose files that I need to get back. Sprite also manages the number of backups retained, I keep the last 3...'cause you can never be too sure

Sprite fell off with version 5.x got much better with version 6.x. I have used it successfully dozens of times.

That's a really good tip. Restoring system data after a reflash is almost gauranteed to cause all kinds of problems, because the registry is different.

Re: What is the safest and most reliable way to backup data...

I came from the Palm OS (please no flaming), and have always had a great respect for Resco applications. I have been beta testing Resco Backup for PPC, and have found that it is rock solid. I do daily backups (incremental) to the SD card, and have restored on multiple (times multiple) occasions (full and partial backups) without a glitch.

I am running a VZW XV6800 with latest DCD rom and radio.

I use sprite have have done so for years. Sprite 6.2 works great on my xv6800 and I use it to make scheduled backups every night.

Re: What is the safest and most reliable way to backup data...

For full phone backup, one of the solutions listed in the thread will do the trick. For free backup and online access to contacts, sms, calls, photos, videos, and other stuff, Dashwire is a pretty solid option. We also do limited restore (contacts, phone settings), but nothing like the others do.

Then again, we don't really think of ourselves as a backup solution, but more of a way to seamlessly access and share your experiences whether on your phone or in front of your computer. Next release will make this even clearer.
