Question Differences in carrier phones?..

I presently have the Apache by Verizon. I am looking to upgrade sometime in the future and I believe that the Titan will be my new phone. What I would like to know is has anyone compared the difference in the carriers phones? As I have been looking at the Titan for a while now, I have noticed that there are significant difference in button design and overall ergonomics between the phones. The Sprint version seems to be the closest to the original HTC brand while the Verizon one is totally different with regard to the 5-way button as well as the softkeys. Unfortunately, Verizon has to be my carrier, but I think I am right in assuming that if I could get my hands on a Sprint or HTC version I will be able to upgrade the ROM to the correct carrier. I guess my biggest concern is that I don't want to have the BS version of a phone because Verizon R&D department wanted to change some things about the phone.
