Simple GPS program like Forerunner?

I'm hoping to use my Mogul to track my distance walking/jogging...Sort of like the Garmin Forerunner GPS for runners?

I don't need maps or navigation. Is there a simply GPS program (preferably free) that just calculates distance and speed?

I've used MASPware GPSMeter and it works pretty well. It doesn't quite have as many on-screen features as a non-mapping Garmin GPS, but it's pretty close (but not free, $25 for the pro edition).

You could also try TrackMe, from the following link at XDA...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340667

it features saving trips locally or remote uploading of trips, setting waypoints, uploading pics with icons for those waypoints, viewing trips in googlemaps, and a lot of other features. I've never tried it walking, but distances/speeds driving seem to be right on.

mapopolis does this, and can record all your information in GPS trails which can be clicked and viewed later.

Mapoplis is free, the maps used to cost money (but they went out of business and don't sell them anymore... abandonware?). Anyway, since the actual app is free before the maps, its perfect for stuff like trailblazing.

I use it on my motorbike to see how fast I was going after a trip because my speedometer is off.
:)

Also used it on a boat once along the Hudson River to see where we came from and get back to our dock.

Thanks for the replies.

I looked at trackme... it seems like more a of tool for downloading later...
I'd like to see speed and distance realtime.

Do you know where I can download mapoplis now?

Any other options? Again, I don't need Maps. Just speed, time and distance.

VisualGPSCD is free and will give you speed, elevation, and heading. I don't think it will calculate distance, though.

I think I found what I've been looking for all along but it's payware...

www.rungps.net

Has anyone ever tried this software?

Also need to figure out how long my mogul will run with the GPS. Need it to last 4+ hours.

Won't run for 4 hours... unless you're careful. I do endurance cycling (4+ hour rides) and use VisualGPS to create a log file which I then upload to one of the many Google Maps mashups that are available on the Internet to analyze the data and see where I've been. You have to be able to set the sample time of how often the GPS app queries the hardware.... the default on VisualGPS is like 1 second when writing the log file, which quickly drained the battery in less than 2 hours. Then again, I'm also playing music through the earbuds too.

Again, the key is to find a GPS app that allows you to set the sampling interval.
