Messaging Problems

Can anyone help? I've been having problems with text messaging. For whatever reason, whenever I start out a text with an 'n' or an 'o', everything freezes up. I can use those letters in the middle of a text, just not at the very beginning. Also, Is there a way to prevent recent messages from being lost when you have to soft-reset?
