Permanently disable EVDO/PCS Data Services

is there anyway to permanently disable all EVDO/PCS data searching services on the phone?

my parents are getting quite angry that I've been racking up charges and I don't even know how...

I'm guessing its possible through a registry setting, but any help is appreciated

I am doing this from memory of something I read about, but never used. So take it with a grain of salt.

Settings>Connections>Connections
Manage Existing Connections under the bold "Sprint"
Edit the Sprint PCS connection
Next
Next
Enter a User name and leave everything else blank
Hit Finish

What this should do, is bring up a password prompt whenever you try and use data. You can then choose to enter the information, or hit cancel. Again, I have not ever done this, but I hear it works.

There is also a setting you can change which will tell your phone to never use EVDO, and stick to 1x, but you need your MSL for that, and I am fairly certain that you can still use data on 1x, but I may be wrong.

i tried using the username thing, but when i go back to the settings to see if it saved, the username just disappears and the spaces are blank again... i tried deleting the entry but then it just reappears when i reenter the settings... anyone know a registry edit?

Try creating a new connection, instead of Sprint PCS, and then doing the same thing. Then select that connection as the default connection.

You can turn off evdo in your phone. Read the online manual. You can turn off any data sets you want. Just read the manual. Calling your provider would also work.

Call Sprint and tell them you want to disable data services on your phone.

Re: Permanently disable EVDO/PCS Data Services

I'm only replying so that anyone who tries to find an answer for this problem can know how I solved it

there were two methods I had working at once:

1) I did as mentioned above and set a username with no password, the phone could never connect, but it kept giving me the error message about the username whenever it tried to connect, so it as quite annoying

2) I found a registry key within "comm" and "providers" that let me disable Sprint EVDO which is default set to 1, I don't know the specific registry address, but if you need help, PM me
