2.5 audio jack

Hello, i use my 6800 to listen to music in my care via a fm transmitter. If i am the mini usb adapter plugged in and then put in the 2.5 audio jack into it and wiggle it around i can make it bring up the phone app, and if i wiggle it some more i can make it dial, what is going on here?

Looks like you aren't the only one to have discovered this 'trick'. See here:

A problem like this seems to get posted every so often, the 2.5mm adapter is NOT for audio out. It is for a telephone headset. Telephone headsets are wired for mic + earphone and often have a button. The button is not a separate input signal but is a short circuit on the mic or earphone wire (I forget the exact details) - this conveniance allows manufacturers to use standard 2.5mm jacks and plugs (of course, there are some exceptions here, but the HTC 2.5mm adapter is not one of them).

Anyway, with different button presses you can get different things to happen, from voice recognition to last number redial, etc. I can only guess how your FM transmitter is presenting itself electrically to the 2.5mm adapter and jiggling the connection is simulating a button press.

For proper audio out you need to use a HTC (ExtUSB) 3.5mm stereo audio adapter - not the included 2.5mm telephone headset adapter.

I use the HTC 2.5/usb splitter (that came with the phone) with a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter so i can lineout to my car stereo. The only problem is the usb portion of the phone does not charge the the phone. So if i want streaming music in the car i cannot charge...which is gay. The stereo sounds great, not sure i agree with the above statement about stereo out. Where would one find a "HTC (ExtUSB) 3.5mm stereo audio adapter " anyways?

You can get the adapters all over the internet, especially on ebay.

I have this one and it works great, even with the 3.16 rom.

Browsing eBay I found a listing for an OEM Sprint USB-3.5" adapter that claims it has "special" circuitry at the 3.5" end. The listing said other USB-3.5" adapters will not work without the circuitry.

Here is a listing on eBay making that claim.

Here is a link to a website with a product that looks identical. I'm posting this for reference after the eBay auction ends.
