WIFI on the 6800

I have the new Verizon 6800. I was using the wifi about a month ago and got my bill and i was charged. I thought using wifi was free. So Iwent into my connections section and clicked on the advance tab. Hit select networks and changed the first option from Verizon Wireless to Wifi. The problem is when you click out and then go back in it defaults back to VW. Is this something that is locked into the phone and I cannot change it? How do i setup up my phone to only use wifi when in the area of wifi? I have called verizon and removed my internet access. So now i am lost. Any help would be greatlly apreciated.

Yeah i turn it on when i want to use it.

Other than that, if you disabled data from your phone already, then you will only be able to pick up wifi.
