Mogul on Verizon - noob question

Yes it's a very noob question but I've searched and haven't found...

I like the xv6800 but don't like the idea of paying Verizon $450 right now for a xv6800 and am wondering if it's possible to buy a Mogul and activate it on Verizon. Don't know if it's a specific hardware thing or not. I'd assume that CDMA is CDMA but knowing Verizon they'll do whatever they can to lock out anything that's not thiers.

so do I need to cough up the $450 or do I have other options?

Thanks.

Based strictly on my own regular reading of the boards, for the time being it is not possible to do the transfer you want without a) breaking the law, b) losing at least some functionality - i.e. data, and c) ending up with an advanced device with no warranty or insurance coverage.
If you are new to ppcs, other options include picking up a used XV6700 on ebay for much cheaper than either the mogul or the xv6800.

Makes good sense. New question: is there a difference between the Audiovox XV6700 and the HTC XV6700??

I'm seeing both listed on eBay and I'd definitely like to try to run TouchFlo - so do I need HTC?

if you are already on verizon, I would highly recommend that you CALL in to them and mention you are wanting to stay with them but you are very tempted to jump to sprint for their priced, or to at&t for their tilt device. The first person you will talk to WILL NOT be able to do anything to satisfy you (but you need to start withem anyway). Then say 'I think maybe I should talk to someone in customer retention'. They will help to entice you to stay. You will likely end up with a deal nearly as good as ebay, but your device will actually come from verizon, most likely brand spankin new. I would suggest trying first for the 6800, but if you need to accept the 6700 (for financial reasons) you will still be damn happy.

Good Luck!

p.s. My experience suggests to NOT go to a store for this, but to CALL.

hm. Well sprint just lost a lawsuit not too long ago and they are going to have to start unlocking phones for you if you want to switch carriers. You may want to look into some details about that.

Didnt verizon recently say they were going to start unlocking phones from other carriers. Dont quite remember the details but search around for it. It was on their web page somewhere.

2nd this move.

I'd give this a shot 1st before trying anything else.

i vote for the 6800 over the 6700 if at all possible. the vx6800 and the mogul are basically the same, but there are some cosmetic differences. however, lawsuit or no, i would not advise trying to use a sprint device with verizon, cuz i can just forsee lots of hoops and red tape.
