Data arrows greyed-out...

Hey all, just got my Mogul a couple weeks ago (upgraded from 700wx). I love pretty much all aspects of it, but like everything, there are a few quirks I have to get worked out. One being this; I am in an EVDO area, which my phone recognizes but my arrows (directly to the right of my EV logo) that show I have a data connection seem to "grey-out" almost all the time (see screenshot below)

My data connection seems to be very slow also. I have tried soft resets, hard resets, calling Sprint Cust Care. They told me that means date is going back & forth. I don't believe that. When I enable my wi-fi, the thing works like a charm.

Any ideas?? Thank you in advance.

They should be gray except when you are actively transferring data. If you are connected, but not transferring data then they stay gray. If they do not turn white when you are actively transferring data then there is some problem. I know that installing certain dialer skins not made for the Mogul can do this.

As for the speed, you might try the mobile speed test at dslreports.com to see what your speed is. If the speed is ok, but its slow bringing up pages, you might try changing your DNS servers.

Thanks stroths. Can you tell me if the Mogul uses the data commection to send Picture texts? I am thinking it does. However, more times than not, when I try to send a picture text, the arrows stay grey and I get a pop-up message informing me the task failed. Try again? or Try Later? But if I'm conn'd w/ my wi-fi (or via ActiveSync), it never fails. It's almost as if the pic text program isn't initiating a data connection.

Any ideas there??

Sending pictures will use data via EVDO and sending text uses the 1x (you will see your EVDO icon turn to 1x for a sec or two)
