Unhappy IMAP emails keep deleting off server

Hi Everyone, this is just my 2nd post. I searched for a long time and couldn't find anything on this. I have my work email set up as an IMAP account on my Mogul and I've discovered that when I delete emails from my device, they get deleted from the server too, even though I have NOT selected that option! This is really irritating and I've lost a few emails because of it. Do you guys know how to fix this? Thanks so much in advance!

Synchronization between device and server is one of the main reasons to use IMAP. That said, there seem to be issues with using IMAP on Windows Mobile devices in general. From what I've seen people have had trouble with GMail IMAP as well. Do you have the option of using POP for access instead?

Send a message via AIM to Baffles
My Gmail IMAP works fine, aside from the HTML email problem where they sometimes show up blank.

The solution is obvious, don't delete email. IMAP is synchronized, so when you delete, you delete from the server. I have my phone set to only show emails from the past day, when I used POP I would just delete the old mails. Works great, IMO.

i have a few imap accounts, and an exchange account, as long as you set up the imap account correctly, and use it correctly, then it works correctly.

i have an imap set to my school's email, which i also have outlook 2003 hooked up to as well on my laptop, so if i ever need to check, i just check via phone, dont bother with anything (deleting and stuff), and then I sync to outlook and take care of it there. once i do a resync with my phone, it gets rid of everything automatically.

but yea, you should probably just not delete it on your phone.

Thanks for the advice guys. I deleted the account from my Mogul and then re-added it and the problem is still there. Actually, I tested it for a while and noticed that when I delete the email on my device and sync my mail, it shows up in my Outlook at work as marked for deletion (with the line going through it). So I could either undelete them at that point (annoying and error-prone), or as ViPaDawG said, just not delete them on my phone at all. I'm not sure if my work allows POP access, but I'll try that next.

It's a shame because my former phone--the teeny bopper Sidekick--handled IMAP emails without such an issue! I'm a brand new Mogul user and it's becoming quite irritating to have to dance around this device's many shortcomings. I can't think of any other piece of technology that I've bought that required me to adapt to so many problems (e.g., obsessively checking memory, immediately closing programs, soft-resetting, etc.)

But, it's like being in a relationship with a raging alcoholic that gives great sex--the allure of the things that the Mogul does right (or at least semi-right) is powerful enough to keep me sticking around, lol.

well, the way it's working as u describe, is exactly how IMAP is suppose to work. it sounds like the sidekick was doing it wrong. your other choice is to use POP, and then use the feature keep message on server.

Haha thanks Prophetizer I never considered that the Sidekick was doing it wrong. I thought that by selecting "keep message on server" when deleting on my Mogul, it would leave the message untouched in my work Outlook, even with IMAP. But maybe I was wrong. Thanks for your help.
