Zumobi - tile based content browser and player - available now in BETA for WM
Quote
The Zumobi user interface is particularly well usable in smartphones with keyboards or keypads because zooming in works also by pressing particular numbers. To get Zumobi for Windows Mobile click http://my.zumobi.com/account/signup and remember to enter proper mobile phone number because download link is not available in confirmation email or on the website but only in the text message (SMS). Only US phone numbers work properly. More information from Zumobi follows below. * * * * * Get the information you need – and the entertainment you want – in snack-sized bites throughout the day by zooming through Zumobi’s widget-like Tiles. The Zumobi mobile content application provides a unique, lush, and engaging zooming user interface that makes it incredibly easy and fast to navigate through the content that you care about. Visit Gallery.Zumobi.com to choose from a great portfolio of news, travel, entertainment, games, and more. The Tiles you choose will be automatically sent to Zumobi on your phone so you can personalize your zoom space with the Tiles that are most interesting and relevant to you. Zumobi updates your Tiles with fresh content throughout the day with our background synchronization. This means you’ll no longer have to endure long browser loading delays each time you want to access the Tiles’ web-based content. You’ll find yourself bouncing in and out of your Tiles several times during the day to see what’s new . You can also interact with your Tiles’ information and entertainment even when your phone is beyond wireless service, like on a plane or in a subway, well beyond the capabilities of your typical mobile web browser. "What is Zumobi? Think of it as zoom-able ("Z" in Zumobi comes from "Zoom") set of tiles, where each tile can contain static or interactive content, that is being fetched from Internet and/or viewable offline. Navigating through tiles is particularly easy in case of smartphones with keypad or keyboard because by single key press users can select tiles that should be zoomed. Zooming is done with fancy fluid screen effects so it is pleasant to use. Zumobi could be also considered as multi-platform widget container that would like to replace plain web browsing, off-line feed readers and Flash applications. Since Microsoft still has not released Silverlight for Windows Mobile and latest Flash is still not available for download for this platform, Zumobi is a breath of fresh air... I read about this on Engadget yesterday, so I decided to sign up and install it. I works ok. It does require 10MB of open memory to run, but it has a memory checker that runs prior to the actual program to warn you.
It is sometimes slow, but it does have some cool graphics and good use of visuals for viewing content. I think it would make a great app for the Touch because it has more memory. I think I'd use it every now and then. Also, this is a beta, so maybe during final release, they'll fix the memory requirements. Or maybe by then, we'll all have 128MB of RAM or greater on our phones . |
