Slow log on for Email. (Comcast)
 

I am using the built in Email client to connect up to my Comcast mail. It takes literally 1-2 minutes to log into Comcast and send/receive.

Does anyone else have this issue?

It just says connecting... 30 secs
Logging On... 45 secs.
Done

Is there a logical reason it takes 1.25 minutes to log into my Comcast and check to see if there is any new mail? Is it a limitation of the hardware?

I guess I am used to my home email using outlook. I click send/receive, and in 2 secs it is done.

Searched, but I didnt see anything like it.

I live in Michigan and have the exact same problem with sending / receiving my Comcast email! It does eventually send / receive but it takes forever. My sprint account goes very fast on the Mogul though. Im not sure what the problem is but I intend to find out!

I found a solution, and I have tested it and it 100% works. My comcast send/receive takes 3 seconds! =D>

There is one caveat to it. If you have Gmail set up to work through your email like your comcast, it will stop it from working. Gmail is easy enough to get on the web, so that is one consequence I do not mind.

Solution:
There's a registry fix that speeds up that long comcast logon process. Using the registry editor of your choice (mine is resco), go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Inbox. Create a new DWORD named ForceOffSSL. Assign to it a value of 1. Save, and do a soft reset. You will immediately see the difference in the connect/logon speed."

WARNING: Before trying this you might want to read the whole thread (link below). After doing the hack and reseting, my Comcast and Gmail accounts did not work at all. I deleted and reset up my Comcast account, and it works great now. However, my Gmail account does not work at all. I believe it may require SSL and this hack basically forces it off for all your mail accounts. I don't care though, because the whole gmail excersize was just a test.

One other thing to note, the first time I tried this, it did not work. After looking at the registry, for some reason after I created the registry DWORD, for some reason it did not save. :scratch: The 2nd time I tried, it worked and I soft reset. I did also have to delete my Comcast email and set it up again. But after that my Comcast mail shows up in < 5 seconds! :)
