Why wont an adapter work?

Ive bought 2 adapters for the lil 5-pin plug to adapt it to a 3.5mm audio jack and none of them even phase the phone lol. What does it take to get audio out of the phone and into the back of my car audio or any other 2.5mm or 3.5mm jack. The supplied headphones work, do I just need to start chopping wires?

The 2.5mm jack is wired for a telephone headset (speaker + mic), simply using a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter won't make it a stereo audio output (it'll just be a 3.5mm telephone headset jack).

You need to buy a ExtUSB (or HTC) to 3.5mm adapter, which you can buy from many, many places online.
