Will the 6800 get the new WM6.1 update that comes out in February?

Will the 6800 get the new WM6.1 update that comes out in February along with EVDO Rev A and GPS? Does anyone know if this WM6.1 update will be for WM6 Pro as well? I keep seeing only Standard in the videos.

So now that we have a working 2.17 ROM that was way overdue. We need to look forward to the missing piece of SW that will enable EVDO Rev A and the GPS already built into our phones. Now it looks like MSFT is working on a WM6 update that will be out around the same time and that works with current devices! I'm going to email our friends at Sprint to look into this!

Unless M$ makes an about face on it's habit of memory usage increase with each new OS release, 6.1 will have even less available RAM than 6. I think it'll be available, officially or not. Weather it'll be useful is another thing.

Do you guys think it will be a Windows Update via the OS or a new ROM? I don't think there has been an occasion yet where windows update works.

A source says the update *can* happen via the Win update but won't due to carrier-restrictions...

Will the Mogul get 6.1? Tough call. As I mentioned in the PPC News thread on this topic, 6.1 adds a lot of functionality for remote admin and IT control over networked WM devices e.g. force wipe, lock down of cameras, etc.

So 6.1 is mostly for enterprise udpates and Exchange 2007 extended support--and like all semi-major updates, some UI changes will be there too.

I can see HTC/Sprint rolling out 6.1 as it is a major boon for business and the 6800 is not getting replaced anytime soon. But honestly, we'll just have to wait and hear.

And devices are not scheduled to ship with 6.1 till I believe Q2 of 2008 (May).

What has been "leaked" so far only shows WM Standard, correct.

But the updates that I alluded to ( Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008) are most certainly for WM Professional as well, in fact more so. In fact, I know the Treo 750 is getting this update mid 2008 and a source as linked WM 6.1 and MSCMDM 2008--b/c MS is having typical demonstration meetings showing this).

The 6.1 update is a fairly major one and will almost certainly be implemented on both platforms, as they are developed together to keep feature parity of the core Exchange system.

In other words: expect to see some WM 6.1 Pro shots and info in the coming months.
