Sprint branded vs Alltel branded

I asked this on another forum but didn't get much of a reply, and i broke down and bought an alltel branded phone at auction elsewhere, but the seller hasn't contacted me so i suspect i may have to start over from the beginning.

I currently use AllTel in the oklahoma area, and i'm working on upgrading my phone to the ppc 6800, but being poor and in college, i'd like to save a few bucks if possible. The sprint branded titans are around $100-200 cheaper than the alltel ones.

That being said, my question is there any difference, hardware wise, between the sprint branded titan and the alltel branded titan?
Or is it all in the firmware?

Does anyone know for sure what steps would be needed, or if it would even work, to buy a sprint branded titan, and flash it to alltel firmware and have it work on the alltel network.

It is possible, the only hold up that I am not sure if anyone else has gotten to work is that internet access as far as I know hasn't been figured out as of yet. There are a lot of topics on here about cloning an esn, msid and mdn etc to enable another phone to work on a different providers network. The legality of doing this is something that is open to debate as well. I have (for testing purposes only) taken a Sprint branded 6700 and made it work on the Alltel network with only about 10 minutes of work but as I stated before, getting the internet to work on it is a different story. Start off by searching for information on cloning and changing ESN's etc and that should shed a lot of light on the issue for you.

Well i knew that i could clone the esn and stuff to match my existing phone. What i was wondering is just if the hardware is the exact same, just the outer casing and firmware being different, so that they can access the diff networks, or if they contain some hardware side lock that prevents them or makes it physically impossible to go to other networks.

And i was wondering if anyone has tried this exact/very similar thing and has any advice or story of it actually working.

To my knowledge hardware wise, the Sprint Mogul & Alltel PPC6800 are the same. Software wise, they may vary in Network based apps (SprintTV, Alltel Get Mail, etc) and rom flashing since the networks receive different PRL's, radio versions, etc..

I have successfully changed a Sprint 6700 to an Alltel 6700 by changing the ROM, Radio, and manually updating the PRL. Haven't tried on a 6800, but I'm sure it would be the same.
