can we mod the rom from the 700wx for the mogul
 

i'm asking this because the treo 700wx i had before the mogul with WM5, always had 47mg ram available after soft reset. even if we try a WM5 version for the mogul we still get around 28-25mg. so is there any posibility to use or know how palm manage to do this with the WM5 version for the treo. i never had the error of low memory on my treo and the mogul is getting annoying.

In the same thought, does anyone know what the first 40 megs of ram is being used for? Do all WM6 phones take about 40 megs off the bat?

I do not mean to start a Mogul memory bashing, I am just curious if its all the OS taking the first 40 megs.

from what i know, the OS is save on the rom (mogul have 256mg) when we hard reset with a fresh OS we have about 173mg free of space. The ram are use programs resources at start up. but if the treo 700wx and mogul have the same ram why if we even installed the WM5 OS, we still have about 28mg free only while the 700wx have 47mg ram.

Hmm...that is a good question....

Maybe the 700wx has less features then the mogul has so it would use less ram. But if thats the case then some features of the mogul won't work....

Having both phones, I can tell you the 700wx has a LOT fewer features than the Mogul. But as for the question at hand, I can't possibly imagine the 700wx system would work on a Mogul. It's completely different hardware. May as well try installing XP on a microwave oven. I might also add that there is already at least one WM5 system you can put on the Mogul and while it's a little faster, you lose some features and you might gain a mb or two or ram, but it's not worth it, in my opinion. Search the forum, it's not hard to find.

I do not know what the optimizations on the 700wx were that give it much more free RAM, but I know how/why they came about. The first Treo Windows Mobile phone was the Treo 700w which came out on Verizon. It's virtually identical to the current 700wx except that it only had half the RAM of the 700wx (32mb). Since it only had 32mb of RAM, Palm did a LOT of customizations and optimizations to reduce the RAM usage. Once the 700wx was released, it had twice the RAM, but still had all those optimizations built in from the 700w. This made it have much more free RAM than just about any other 64mb WM5 device.
