Connection Question

OK, this IS going to sound stupid. I don't think I'm an idiot (some might think so), but I just don't know the answer.

What is the difference between "verizon wireless ---- #777" and "VZW Embedded GSM"? This is my first smart phone. I cannot remember when I first got the phone if it ever dialed out #777 but I just noticed it last night after I setup "Mobile Email". Now it does it every time I turn the Data on.

Re: Connection Question

Imagio is a world phone. You can use it on GSM network or CDMA network. The #777 is the data connection for cdma side of the house. The embedded GSM is for the sim portion, i.e. GSM portion.

Don't forget to say thanks!

Re: Connection Question

I'll take a stab here since I had a VZW tech change my connections setup. First, the GSM is bascially useless if you're using the phone exclusively in the US. I found out in the extend battery life thread in this forum that GSM basically doesn't exist in the US. The VZW tech had me remove all connections on the list except the Verizon Wireless #777. Apparently any time a data connection is attempted the phone "dials" that number to establish a data link. I get errors once in a while telling me it didn't connect but it never persists. If I were you I'd go in and remove the other connection types and leave just the #777.

Re: Connection Question

Where do you remove the other connection types just leaving #777?

I placed the phone in CDMA only on day 1 but didn't realize there was another area that needed to be changed as well????

Re: Connection Question

I swear it didn't used to do it before. Might have been that it was using the wireless at home instead. At work I have 3G while at home I have only 1x Extended. At work I don't use the wireless (mainly because its filtered) and home I use the wireless since data is faster.

Thanks guys

Gsm

It will be able to be unlocked for Tmobile or At&t with a sim unlock. Very similiar to the Storm.

Settings -> All Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Manage existing connections

Remove all entries that are NOT Verizon Wirelss #777 by tapping and holding until a menu comes up. If one doesn't produce a menu remove the other one first (I had a GSM and another option I had to remove). This will not guarantee you won't get the #777 error message again. I get it several times a day at my house because I'm very close to a lake and in a traditionally tough coverage area. In good areas I never see it.

Hit thanks if it helped. :headbang:
