You need to connect headphones for the screen to turn off and not affect music play. After the screen is off, pull out the headphones and the music will come out throug the speakers and the screen will still be off.

But even with the power setting to turn screen off on external power, the screen wouldn't turn off. And if I tried to turn it off myself using the red button, it would turn the music off.
