Unlocked the SIM

I had VZW unlock my SIM today, and I can verify that the Imagio works on AT&T's network. This means I don't have to use the POS AT&T phone that my employer gave me - I can just switch my phone over to GSM during work hours and use the SIM from work

Adrianh85 - Thanks for your post and thread instructions. I just called VZW Global Services and after checking to see if my account qualified, they gave me the unlock code for my SIM. Popped in my Italian Telecom SIM card and it works great (even though i'm roaming with it in the US).

I will note that the tech did not have the right Menu Paths to get to the unlock screen, i had to "find it" while i was on the phone with him.

No, once you unlock your Imagio, you can buy a prepaid sim card from anywhere in the world and use it on your phone. Great for traveling. In August i bought a quad band gsm phone for use in europe and a prepaid european sim card. If i had this phone then, i would only need the sim card. I live close to Canada, and i'll get a Canadian prepaid SIM for when i go up north. No roaming on VZW's expensive international plans! You could use your friend's sim card on an unlocked Imagio and his phone/account would now operate through your phone.

whats a good sim to use in canada?
i want to go up and check it out sometime soon.
moved to upstate NY a couple years ago and have not made it up there yet.

Also please note that you *DO* have to have a qualifying Verizon account. I asked and the minimum account you need is the $29.99 and you also need the $39.99 unlimited data plan addon. Too much IMHO. If you have the Imagio on another network (like I do) then here is a service which is in our pocket's reach...I submitted my IMEI and will post results as soon as I get my unlock code.

1. VZW data plan options are either $45 or $30

2. Data plans are required for smartphones

3. How is it "too much" if having a data plan is required by the carrier?
