Re: How much of a difference will new ROMs make? Did Verizon cripple it?

BTW the mention of the VZW contacts on the Leo video are NO indication that it is coming to VZW. The guy probably had those contacts on his Exchange account from a previous VZW phone and simply synced with the Leo and thus they appear there. If anything it is the least likely carrier to get it IMO as the current model out is GSM based. Granted this is all speculation, but I don't feel VZW will see the Leo anytime soon.

Not a stupid question at all. I'm always looking up tech terms that people use on these forums. aGPS stands for assisted GPS. In this case, the phone uses the providers cell phone towers to help triangulate your location thus making it easier for the GPS radio to locate you. You will notice this if you open GoogleMaps for example and press the 'my location' icon. You'll see the center dot surrounded by a large pale blue circle and the message will pop up stating this is your location to within 'xxxx' meters (this number is usually quite high like 1500). As the GPS radio locks on, the center dot will move and the pale blue circle will shrink significantly and your location will be accurate to within a couple of meters. aGPS and GPS are both unlocked in the Imagio, thankfully.

so in this case it's actually better than just using GPS alone (that is, more accurate than a standalone GPS receiver, w/ no cell phone in it, would be)? I always though that aGPS was a kind of "next best thing" for phones that didn't have a real GPS receiver. This has real GPS, which works when the cell phone isn't getting a signal, right?

thanks!

Not a stupid question . A lot of this stuff is like learning a second language for some of us lol. aGPS is real satellite GPS, it's the same that we've been using in Vogue, TP, Diamond etc.

The specs, looks and UI of the HD are impressive and all things being equal I would buy it in a minute. But, things aren't all equal. The HD is not a world phone and the Imagio is and that is critically important for me. I will be using the GSM side of the Imagio quite a bit and not having that on the HD is a deal killer for me.
