Re: Virus Protection for the Imagio?

Mcafee makes one that you load onto your computer and when you connect your phone to sync it checks it.

Re: Virus Protection for the Imagio?

kiI am trying lookout beta. They are a new company that is specially in the market for creating security for mobile phones. Three services antivirus/firewall, backup services, and nuker service. Antivirus/firewall seem decent so far
I haven't noticed a huge slowdown in my phone and my normal memory after the day is done is well over 80% so that hasn't changed and the firewall is blocking something but doesn't say specifically what yet and antivirus scans daily. I didn't know that there were over 16000 files on thus phone. Backup backs up your phone's fils to their sever not SD card yet. The best program of all the nuker program. If your phone gets lost or stolen you can locate your phone via gps and then send out an annoying screaming sound or reset your phone back to factory specs.

Re: Virus Protection for the Imagio?

Last I heard, there were less viruses for winmo (or mobile devices period) than you could count on one hand. In fact, the only virus I've ever heard of is the "Cabir" virus, which was specifically designed as a proof-of-concept, and AFAIK never entered the mainstream. There are rumors of MMS/bluetooth transmissible viruses, but again AFAIK, they haven't gotten into the mainstream either. In fact, as I understand, the carrier checks for malicious content over the air. Analysts have determined that the threat of point-to-point viruses is very little. Rather, it is anticipated that when viruses become a serious threat, they will be in the form of auto-distribution type viruses (IE: something that would send itself to everyone in your contacts list). In any case, I would suggest pocketing your money, and forgo the virus software. If you're that concerned about them, all you need to do is be careful about the MMS you open, and don't leave your bluetooth in discoverable mode.

Re: Virus Protection for the Imagio?

is being on the internet not the same as if we were on a computer? Just curious. or could there be a virus in a cab that we download? Trust me if i dont have to install a bulky virus protection program that takes up memory than i wont.

Thanks

Re: Virus Protection for the Imagio?

Same internet, different interface. Viruses are OS specific. While they may target multiple OS's (IE a virus that affects Windows and OS X), they are not targeting (nor are capable of running) in the winmo environment. In other words, the viruses your computer may get through the internet, cannot infect a mobile device.
