Google maps integration contacts

This is one thing I miss! On an energy ROM on my diamond I used to be able to look up an address in an options menu on a chosen contact.
I could choose add to contacts from a menu in Google maps.
Or in the contacts menu I could "locate on map" from the contact info.
Ideally here is how it should work, (also posted this along time ago at XDA)

I start a small business such as lawn care, post my number in the paper and other ads.
1. my phone rings (555)555-1234 calls, yes I will be buy to give you an estimate, can you be reached at this number?
2. copy number
3. open opera, open google,in google paste the number (to get the address and personal info.)
4. open google maps
5. copy and paste address in Google maps get the location on the map and directions.
6. open options menu and choose add contact.
7. open google back up and choose the persons name, copy
8. open the contact back up, add name to contact, category to suit,
9. open Pocket informant and create a new appoitment with the new contact linked phone(to call and confirm), linked address (for directions VIA map),for the estimate.
10. Add in Callcalendar2. Now and all calls are logged to the calendar and also to the contacts note field of the chosen contact.

A lot of rigmarole!!!!

IDEALLY it would work like this:
1. Phone rings (555)555-1234
2. From the Phone log choose +contact
3. New? or update existing?
4. New, look up number?(Now it would be great to just look up in Google maps).
5. options, add all information?, YES, DONE!
This opens contact to proof. Choose menu, create appointment, Done!

Right now there is no locate on map from contact.
No add to contact from google maps.
So it is very time consuming, especially while driving.

Re: Google maps integration contacts

The previous version of Google maps allowed a map lookup from the contacts application. However, I have just found out that my newest update got rid of this feature. I have used this quite a bit from the windows contact page. (It never did it from the HTC contacts).

Any one out there have any ideas?

Re: Google maps integration contacts

Using Titanium (windows default) the right "menu" in contacts has a "Locate in Google Maps..." link. Note that it's dimmed if you have no address in the contact but the menu choice is there.

So if you enter the address while saving the contact you're good to go.

While on the phone call, that requires clicking "contacts" softmenu while on speaker phone and inputting the new contact & addy. Save & the contact is done.

Then later on from call log you can click into contacts & go to google map, etc.

Re: Google maps integration contacts

That option is still there in GM 4.0.0 #81 the latest version available now.

another reason why WP7 can't come fast enough...no more HTC shovelware

Re: Google maps integration contacts

I have version 4.0 #81 and the "locate in Google Maps" is gone off of the contacts page. However, while in Google maps, there is a lookup contact command that accomplishes the same thing. I would prefer to start the search from the contact page.

Is there something else I might have done?

See screenshot... it's in the right soft menu (no scrolling required) when you click "menu" from Microsoft Contacts. (see exact contact page where the menu is)

Again i'm using (and highly recommend if you like stable/fast devices) Titanium (windows default today/home) and thus HTCs Touchflo & shell is disabled. From what you're saying it seems like the HTC contact application is mucking up the menu or maybe you need to just scroll down..

pic #3 is a contact WITH an addy, hence the "locate in google maps" is not dimmed. click it to load google maps.

Re: Google maps integration contacts

gcianc,

thanks for the help. However, I used to have that working just as yours is. I might have lost it with the update to GMaps or possibly with one of the many color upgrades from Maxtee or others. I was just wondering if anyone else had lost this ability and I then can narrow down the culprit easier without starting from scratch.

Re: Google maps integration contacts

it's not lost from gmaps (we're on the same version). did you TRY at least to use titanium and see if that matters? If you don't see it on titanium start uninstalling tweaks/hacks good luck.
