Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

1 Attachment(s)
I've gotten android 2.01 to boot on Imagio based on the topaz work on xda. After changing the the startup config's I've got the touchscreen responding properly but the hardware keys arent mapped right. The latest kernel noted in post 602 on xda didnt boot but the original pkg did. PS vol down is for vol and backup key as its mapped currently and the bottom right onscreen button on the press the android to start will let you change the lang to english.

Needs works:
wifi
bluetooth
hardware key mapping
cdma radio
gps

Download the 2.01 pkg from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...es#post3695364

Replace the default.txt with my startup.txt.

Also it works using the topaz's mtype but not with rhodium mtype. I registered a mtype for whitestone with haret a few months ago of 2514 which hopefully we can use to further development.

awesome, but if I am reading this correctly. You can now run Android on the phone, but your phone does not work as a phone. The Bluetooth, CDMA, Wireless all not working, correct. Either way I think it is great that we are moving in the right direction. Good work

Re: Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

Yes that is correct none of the radios work currently. I remember when the touch pro was like that but now most everything works. Its just a starting point that it boots now.

when it works on the Imagio, is this just a program like touch flo 3d, and install like a cab or would you have to go to a whole process to get this on the Imagio.

No its another operating system. Its not a cab nor a rom. You place the android images, kernel, etc on your sd card and run a WinCe app called Haret and boot into android from windows mobile. To get out of android you soft reset and it doesn't affect any of your windows mobile stuff.

Re: Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

It really runs great, except for nothing working, but I mean its quick and responsive and the volume up button doubles as a back button if you get into messaging or dialing. Just tap it about six times and it should bring you back. This has definite potential. I hit thanks good find. It in super beta works better than the wm 6.5 put on the phone itself.

I am very happy this week indeed, Having something new to play with will be fun.. Heck if it eventually gets to be fully functional that'd be great but it will serve as a nice distraction.. Finally the imagio is gettin some loving.

yeah..i'm stoked.
nice.
thanks for bringing to our attention.
how long do you think it'll be till it's fully functional as a phone usind android?

mine keeps hanging at some of the music I have on my storage card. Is it best to run it off a clean storage card you think?

Re: Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

it might just be because of the stage its in.. many things will not work 100% in this build I'd imagine.. I am downloading it now to give it a shot.

Re: Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

according to the other thread in XDA you extract the zip into the root folder of your SD card and then run haret..

"How to Install and Run.

For install:
  • Download latest build below [Post 4].
  • Unzip the contents of the .zip file.
  • Copy All contents of the unzipped file to the ROOT of your Storage Card.

It should look like this.
/Storage Card/
/AndroidApps/
/conf/
/media/
/DEFAULT.TXT
/dm.txt
/haret.exe
/initrd.gz
/rootfs.img
/smem.txt
/system.sqsh
/zImage

To run Android.
Everthing in the "" was taken from the XDA Thread.
I imagine the only file you'd be replacing is the one linked in the first post. ANd viola.. im at 90 percent done soo ill post some info later.

That is correct delete default.txt and add the startup.txt. I asked some of the guys from xda/htc-linux if we can get whitestone added into the topaz/rhod development tree and they agreed. There is much work to be done GPIO dumps for hardware functionality, etc. this won't be a few weeks project but months to complete probably.

Re: Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

When i run haret.exe my phone just restarts. I replaced default.txt with startup.txt is there something else im missing?
And i put the android folder in the root of my SD like it says. does it have to be an empty SD?

EDIT - Or maybe not i ran it again and now it is sitting there with the tiny words on the screen.... time to wait :)
EDIT II - how long are we supposed to wait?

Re: Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

Just for SnG's I dialed my wifes phone using the android boot.
Her phone actually rang!

But, no sound or anything was audible from the imagio.
Is that a good sign?

1st time mine took 3 to 5 minutes.
Last time about 2 mins
Then the next time about 4 mins
lol..
I guess it's hit or miss.

It takes quite some time. Depending on the speed of your memory card it could take 10 plus minutes the 1st time it boots as it prepares and builds the files like a 1/4gb data.img file etc.

Re: Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

My problem is when i run it once it soft resets my phone. When i run it again i let it sit for 30-40 minutes and the tiny text on the screen never moved beyond halfway down my screen. Then i had to use the reset button under the battery cover to reset

it stops at - 1.648925] console handover: boot [htc_fb0] -> real [tty]

Re: Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

Am i understanding this right? DELETEdefault.txt and COPY the startup.txt

EDIT - if i delete default and replace it with startup then i dont get the screen that has the run button. Just the starting linux message box with a loading bar...... sorry i feel like such a http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/t...b_crossing.jpg

drellisdee, how did you get this to work? I get unable to mount SD Card and it won't continue. Thanks

knotbeerdan 01-05-2010 11:23 PM

Re: Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

I downloaded 1.6 and when i went to run it my screen turned white.... Hopefully a good sign. I cannot get 2.1 to work no matter what.

Where do you see unable to mount SD card? I tried moving the whole android folder to my SD and moving everything inside the folder to my SD

EDIT - No such luck.... Im not sure why i cant get this going, Are we supposed to rename startup.txt to default?

and by replace you mean DELETE default.txt and copy and paste startup.txt

Unfortunately this is a bad picture (taken with my omnia) but this is as far as it goes then nothing else happens

Re: Whitestone Android It Booted!!!

well i deleted the default, and pasted the new 'startup' one, not sure if that matters, you might also want to make sure you have no other files with similar names on your SD card that might conflict

Well i formatted my SD card and only had the android files/folders on there. Still got stuck at the same position. would any mods to windows mobile be causing this? i thought it closed winmo down and ran android?

My lock screen likes to lock up nice and tight, cant press any of the buttons in it but the call button seems to unlock the phone.
Keys piss me off

Overall it works great for being for another phone!
