how to keep XT9 from changing characters I've already typed?

Unlike my old HTC XV6700 (WM6.1), this XT9 predictive spelling thing goes way overboard: not only does it suggest various endings to what I'm typing (useful), but it changes the characters I've already typed, sometimes radically. This stinks - when I type something, I don't want it changed... Any way to make the XT9 keep what's been typed and only suggest various endings?

Mike

Re: how to keep XT9 from changing characters I've already typed?

I have not found anything like that. What I have found, though, is that if I keep typing I can just select what I typed in the black word selection box.

I see this PITA behavior as well. Its more of a rewrite not a suggestion as it should be.

i know what you mean. the word or letter change in the text box, but are still the 1st word in the black bar. just touch that word and it goes into the text box.

Yeah, this really drives me crazy as well and I haven't found a workaround yet. Like Mahalo says, I've learned to just keep typing and it finally gives me my word.
