Power insufficient message...never seen this one before

Does anyone else ever get a message on their imagio saying the power source is insufficent when connected to a laptop via usb? Mine does frequently whether I'm tethering or synching and I've never seen that before with any of the pda's i have owned over the years....

Thanks

I've seen that happen only once and it was when my AC power cord pull free of my 4-port hub. Sounds like you might be eating up more power that your USB ports can offer. Try unplugging something from the USB ports and see if that gets rid of the problem (a printer perhaps, or some other external storage you might have plugged in). If the phone is all you have plugged in then I'm not sure what the problem could be besides a possible failing USB port?

Yeah some hubs don't supply enough power for certain devices. Either lighten the load on the hub or try different ports that use a different hub/controller.

Guys above are spot on... it's not your phone causing the problem, its your USB ports.

They can only put out so much power, and charging a battery is pretty taxing.

Thanks for the quick responses.... you have confirmed what I was thinking the problem was but its always nice to have the group respond... My laptop is a toshiba last year model and I will look to see what the output capability is on the usb ports (if I can find that info) I have the same results with all three of the ports so it may just be that I have to set it to not charge the phone while attached...

Thanks again for the help!

I've had the same thing happen on my Mac at work. The weird thing is that it only happens at times, others I am able to charge/connect no problem... never happens on my Vaio at home either.

Wow, on a practically new laptop too. Is it on power or battery?

I've had this happen a couple times with my tp2, not with my Imagio yet. I'm tethering to a laptop when it pops up. Does it rarely. Not a big deal. Not sure what's the cause. Lappy's plugged in also. Lotta stuff open I guess.

Yeah, some laptops and netbooks can't provide enough power to the USB ports to recharge batteries or power other devices. I would suggest turning off your Imagio to reduce the power demand when you're hooked to your laptop via USB -- assuming the only reason you're hooked up is to recharge.

I get this with my car charger if I'm also playing music. Guess the music player uses more juice than the charger can provide. I just clear the notification and ignore it.
