sprint hero crashing, need help or ideas lol

so let me start by stating the problem, and ill post things ive done to try to fix it lol... any help, or ideas are greatly appreciated.

bought a sprint hero, originally came with 1.5 i think... was upgraded to 2.1 at a sprint store late june or early july. i havent flashed anthing other stan stock roms. the problem started after upgrading to 2.1... i think lol. the problem is that when you try and run either google maps or sprint nav, they kinda half open and then the phone soft resets itself. after the phone powers back on, if you try and open the app, it will continue to soft reset itself.

ive hard reset. google maps/sprint nav will work fine for a couple of weeks and then the problem starts again.

sprint has sent me a new hero... worked fine for a few weeks, then started doin it again...

ive spent long hours on the phone with sprint tech support, and advanced tech support, and theyve never heard of the issue. ive searched here and at xda for problems like this, and have found zero threads/posts describing anything even close..

i hard reset the new hero, and didnt update any of the apps thinking that maybe one of the updates caused the problem... same time span.... bout two weeks, it soft resets itself...

i downgraded to the 2.27.651.5 build and rooted, removed a few of the bloatware apps (from the list of safe to remove apps on here) and its been about a week, and last night just checking to see if it happened or not, started google maps and it soft reset itself...

the phone works fine otherwise... at this point, sprint told me that theyve sent me two phones and that i need to take it to a store and have it looked at by the tech... so i know i have to flash back to unrooted stock and wait for it to start happening again so they can look at it.

anyone else have this problem, or hear of a problem like this?

CHeck available memory. It may be the problem if you're running a stock Sprint ROM. What happens is the cache gets full and it restarts to clear it. A custom apps2SD Rom should fix that problem and then some. I'm personally running NfiniteFX's stock deoxed with an overclock kernel and it's stable and fast. In fact, it has never done the random reboot.

its my moms phone and shes not willing to flash a bunch... so i cant really flash a custom rom for her... she wants it to stay stock... the phone runs fine, EXCEPT when you try to open google maps or sprint nav.....

it usually runs at about 47m of free memory according to advanced task killer... dunno how good or bad that is... but on my tp2 with xdandroid i usually have 90-100m so i dunno... im trying to take it back to 1.5 to see if that actually works...

if i cant figure something out soon, we are both about fed up with this phone... lol i had been contemplating switching over to a real android phone, but this has seriously killed that for me...

Re: sprint hero crashing, need help or ideas lol

The Nfinite ROM I suggested is stock, but optimized. It could also be the task killer stopping needed services for the programs that crash the phone. Could also be 47 Megs free too, I typically have 70-95 free. Try turning off the task killer and using nav. If it doesn't crash, there you have the solution. It's kind of a split decision on taskkillers anyway as Android works different than WM. With WM, task managers are more or less a necessity but Android handles programs and their execution more like for lack of a better analogy, a dumbphone. My wife's LG Rumor has a lot of apps, but no taskkiller and it runs just fine for instance.

you almost have to have a task killer for the stock rom.... it randomly opens all the bloatware... like nascar or sprint tv NEED to be open and running... :\ i flashed back to .5 today and now im using the hell outta it to try and get it to start crashing again so i can take it to sprint and get her another phone...
