HTC Sync 3.0.5481 Alternatives?

Is this the WORST Program on the planet?!?

I bought the Evo Shift today, I love the phone) but I can't get it my computer, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Outlook 2007, to sync. Oh, it charges it alright. But that's about it!

I've tried running 3.0, as administer and a different computer but nothing.

Anyone else having this problem?

Re: HTC Sync 3.0.5481 Alternatives?

I myself did not even try to use HTC Sync. Instead, I wanted to synchronize through the "cloud" of Windows Live (formerly Hotmail, formerly MSN), and eventually succeeded--more or less. Windows Live now understands the Microsoft Exchange protocol, and Android's email knows how to synchronize with that.

HTC broke this functionality in its email program, so I had to download the original Android email.apk from the Internet. I was then able to synchronize with Windows Live, except that email was text-only--no HTML, not even clickable URLs. So I had to also define Hotmail as a POP3 provider in HTC's email program. Thus, the Android email is kept up to date with "push", but is useful only for a quick check of the latest; I still use HTC mail for regular reading.

Wow!!

The things we have to go through just to get the phone and the PC to work together!

I wonder what hoops I'll have to jump through to get this ball rolling?

Normally the easiest answer to this would be hosted exchange, but IME since exchange support on Android is about as crappy as I can imagine (and in the last 4 days I've tried every conceivable option) you might want to consider Gmail. I haven't used it but I bet it works fairly well.

It does. I'got no complaints about gmail.

But I simply wanted to put pictures, music and some files on the phone's SD card without having to take the battery out!

Re: HTC Sync 3.0.5481 Alternatives?

I've been using Android PC Suite v1.7.0.186. No issues with it at all. Just have to choose English as language. Default language is chineese. It will do Contacts, SMS, Email, Photos, Calendar, Call History, Notes, ETC... I've had no issues with it so far. Even loaded and copied APK's. Allows to choose path where APK's are installed. Lots of settings. Posted the link to the site below.

If all you want to do is transfer data back and forth without removing the card, there's much better alternatives. Dropbox, WifiFileExplorer, etc.

Do you realize that when you plug your phone into the computer, the phone should give you a menu of choices, one of which is to treat the SD card as a drive?
