Flashing A Kernel Only

Ok guys, first off I would like to say that all the info here I have seen is spot on! Second Im new here. I just Rooted my Evo 4g and install HDMwIn and my HDMI out still does not work....I have seen some posts that recomend flashing a new kernel. I have found a Kernel that appears work well....but they all have a new rom to install as well. I found a good kernel not packaged with a ROM My question: I have not put a new ROM on my phone yet and was wondering if I can flash a new Kernel without flashing a new rom too? Can some one help me?

Re: Flashing A Kernel Only

Yes you can flash a kernel without flashing a ROM, all you do is go into recovery and clear cache and dalvik and then flash the kernel and I go back in and clear cache and dalvik again.

Re: Flashing A Kernel Only

Another alternative would be to use the program "Flash Image GUI". It makes it extremely simple to flash a new kernel. Doesn't even require you to go into recovery.

Re: Flashing A Kernel Only

i use rom manager.. just go to install zip and install it. might want to make a backup first? i use underworld, it's been going really well. i used to use lionfish or whatever but i had the stupid front facing camera being backwards bug and underworld fixes it. battery life is better and its more responsive.
