Re: Thinking about getting an Evo, need advice.

I'm using the Sprint Lovers ROM on mine and my wife's 2.02, 004 Evo's. No special reason for that. It gets good reviews and I'm new to the droid world, so figured I'd start with that and study the others. It is a change from the WinMo (TP2 most recently) world that I've been used to. You don't have nearly the ability to "hack" little settings to tweak things just the way you want them. But the payoff is a FAR superior web experience, which is what I was after. There are pluses and minuses for me (I still miss my slide out keyboard at times!), but so far, I'm pretty happy with the switch.

My battery life is quite good. I'm not a power user at all, and have most stuff turned off most of the time (wifi, gps, pull mail, etc). I've not run it below 50% in a day yet, and that's with some GPS nav.

Still thinking a little about going back and getting the Epic instead, though. Smaller screen, older OS but has the sliding keyboard and a better screen.

Re: Thinking about getting an Evo, need advice.

Just got my Evo today. I really like it so far. Definitly will take a bit to get used to but very impressed so far.

Just checked the software settings:

Software number: 3.30.651.3

I booted into HBOOT and it is 2.02.0000

I will follow the tutorial that was provided to get it rooted.

The first thing you're going to have to do before attempting to root your new EVO is install the proper drivers on your pc/laptop. Don't install HTC Sync on your computer, install the drivers that are provided in the original unrevoked instructions. The driver install files and instructions can be found herewith forums and/or at unrevoked.com.

I just wanted to get you started on the right foot and hopefully save you some time due to not having the correct drivers already installed before rooting. If you need help just ask and I'm sure someone will help you out. I just rooted my 0004 EVO and had no problems as I followed the instructions for the new hboot root method.

Re: Thinking about getting an Evo, need advice.

I'd ask them to open the box and see what version is in it, before i wrote the check. Make sure you are getting the latest hardware, software. It sucks to buy new and get last months model. We legacy owners are only getting older and crankier. Fear the Walking Dead. We are after you!!

Re: Thinking about getting an Evo, need advice.

Thanks for the heads up tx_dbs_tx. I got the drivers installed and within a short amount of time I was already rooted!

My EVO is the 0004 as well. I'm already enjoying these custom ROMs! Thanks for all the info everybody.

Re: Thinking about getting an Evo, need advice.

Does anybody else do Exchange push email? I've got it setup and it is working great. The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is how to change the sound notification. I'd like to change the notification so I know when I get a text versus an email. I'll continue to play around with it, but if anybody knows off the top of their head, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Edit- I actually just figured it out. lol

Re: Thinking about getting an Evo, need advice.

I have been using the 3500mah since August and never looked back. Gave my stock battery to my daughter to use as a back-up for her TP2. Battery life just isn't in my lexicon anymore.
