Nandroid backup/Revolutionary IO

Do I need to to a nandroid back up with the new root process? I really dont understand the nandroid but I didnt know if it was included in the backup of the software.

It is always a good idea to do a nand right after. It gives you a fallback in case something goes wrong later. If you intend to flash a new ROM its even more important. Just do it to be safe, and once done you can copy or move it to your desktop for safe keeping.

Yes you should do a nandroid after rooting your phone!

A nandroid is a back-up of your phones software at the time that you do the nandroid, so if you have a custom rom on your phone and do a nandroid then that's what gets backed up, it's just like a restore point on a computer.

Root your phone and then do a nandroid and then you will have that back-up in case you need to return the phone to stock <or to the last rom you was using in case you want to return to the last rom you was running> and take it in for service, really the most important part of the nandroid back-up is the backing up of your wimax keys <4g keys> because those can't be replaced, , and that's done when you nandroid the phone. It's not part of the rooting process so like I said after you have ran Revolutionary and rooted your phone boot the phone into recovery and do a nandroid and then feel free to start flashing custom roms.

What should I do if i already flashed a rom on my device. I did backup the original software but I have never run the nandorid backup. is that something I can do now or should do now?

Well like I stated above the most important thing is to have your wimax keys, you can find stock roms to install but once those keys are gone your screwed. There is a free program on the market called wimax rsa keychecker, although I think your fine, I would download that and check just to make sure, also like I stated above I would put that nandroid in a couple of different places so if you accidentally delete from one you still have another copy of it, again especially those wimax keys which are really only important if you want to use 4G.

To answer your specific question-you dont need to run (restore) the backup unless you want to go back to the ROM you backed up.

Like KIOWA said-its a failsafe/restore point in the event something goes wrong when you flash a custom ROM or a mod.
You can flash a custom ROM and then back THAT up if you want before trying mods or themes on it.
Backup as often as you wish but those backups are large files and will fill your SD card quickly. You really only need to keep one on your card, Custom or Stock, as a safety net.
Nands come in real handy when it comes to themes. You can have your un-themed ROM backed up and then try themes on it. Dont like the theme? Then restore your backup and start over.
