Message Counter

Since the Froyo update, the stock message app has had the added "feature" of the message counter. While I'm sure some may enjoy having the tally of how many messages they've had with a person but I was very content with how the old message app worked. Not only that but the compose box is huge.

I realize Handcent is a very solid alternative and can be customized to my liking, however, I actually prefer the stock messaging app over it. Is there any way to remove the message counter, and if possible, reduce the size of the compose field? Or even better, to revert back to the old app while keeping the functionality of the 2.2 update?

While you educate me in how to use the search feature, maybe you could try it and be surprised when it directs you back to this post as the only one here?

Are you rooted? Try removing the .apks for the messaging app and finding the one for 2.1..push that in use adb!!!

It may be that simple...It mat not I on one love handcent and wouldn't revert back to stock for any reason...the only other messaging app i liked was in the ASOP of cm6...

I love when people say this, and that is all they say. Maybe they don't realize that, sometimes, you may be the first person to bring a topic up. Or maybe what you are looking for is buried in a thread with a thousand posts and is like finding a needle in 2 haystacks. It's not like you asked if someone could give you instructions on how to root your phone or how to load a custom ROM. Those topics are easily searched and found in hundreds of places on this site. You asked a very specific question about something many people may not even see.

For what it's worth, I have no idea how to get back to the 2.1 setup, though.
