New software version 6.28?

Sprint has release a OTA software update that will fix the following:

- Improvements to WiFi performance
- Exchange Active Sync improvements which includes a fix to issues with new account setup, PIN policy usage, and Exchange Server 2010 Calendar Sync.
- Addresses social networking sync issues with Facebook application which can improve battery performance.

New version will be 1.46.651.1.

To update go to Home/menu/settings/system update/ firmware update or HTC software update.

Wonder if we should have poll on this "most of us" to see which is it.. Rooted or Not..

I'm pretty sure flipz/toast will have an updated ROM/rooted Stock ROM based off of this new update the same day it's released. I'm not too worried. I may even try to apply the OTA update after a NAND backup as well.

I voted that I'll upgrade, obviously, but it will be immediately upon the rooted release of the stock update.

Re: New software version 6.28?

I'll upgrade because of the WiFi enhancement. The rest is useless to me.

Of course I'll update. I've got no reason not to actually. My phone has a hard time connecting to my WiFi when my Diamond and Touch Pro 2 had limited issues. This phone is amazing as is buti am still awaiting this update.

Re: New software version 6.28?

I'll be updating, I just wonder if this improvement means N compatibility. I've got an N router and nothing that uses it. :|

Re: New software version 6.28?

I'm actually more interested in signal improvements ... my EVO (before the N patch) was almost always 2 bars lower than my laptop sitting right next to each other. At least with the existing N patch I am getting 1-2 bars better, but it's still a bar down from what it should be.

Example, here in my bedroom (less than 50 ft from the access point, and it's a straight line of sight between the AP and me except my door being shut) my access point is a Cisco Aironet 1131AG, and I'm getting 5/5 bars from my laptop, but only 2/4 bars from my EVO. I have to be within 10 feet to get 4/4 on the EVO, and 15-30 feet gives me 3/4.

Aside from that, there are other issues I'm interested in addressing... the FPS rate, which I understand is why the touch-sensitivity issue exists, as well as the improved Exchange account support.

What gives you guys the idea that the update will break root? I bet it won't affect root at all, and we won't have anything to worry about until the 2.2 upgrade. Remember, the last OTA didn't seem to affect root either.

Re: New software version 6.28?

I dont care about flashing roms at this point since I refuse to lose any functions the phone came with. Im just using unrevoked for wifi tether at this point so more than likely ill upgrade.

Re: New software version 6.28?

I would be tempted to update for better battery performance but the truth is I finally have this thing rooted and I have my battery life at a very workable life expectancy so I voted no. But perhaps there should have been a third option like, will update when root is available on the update.

It was a assumption that the update would break a rooted phone.

I want to say thanks to everyone that has posted

So since ive used Unrevoked not fully rooted an using a custon rom (Flipz updated OTA w/ root access) If i update will it brick my phone or just take the rom an root off my phone? Should i just wait until Flipz comes out with his updated OTA....Im second Guessing my Rooting now

Re: New software version 6.28?

Its relatively easy to make a rooted "update.zip" from the Sprint ruu executable. I did this with . 6 when it came out. Basically, you only are using the rom part of the installer. Doing this you dont loose root ability.

Re: New software version 6.28?

I'm probably NOT going to update since I have FULL root and am already running the currently MOST stable Froyo ROM out there now. Yes, the camera and BT is still broken...but I have a NAND backup of a fully functional 2.1 ROM for camera work.

NOW...the battery performance from 2.2 to 2.1 is so much better I'm not sure where to begin. I can leave the house with a full charge...and NOT charge again until before I go to sleep...(usage..moderate text, gmail push, espn scorecenter push, engadget widget push, news/weather push, 30 mins of talking on the phone, moderate internet usage, and at least an hour of messing with the phone and settings) I am at 30-40% when I plug in at night.

That alone is worth me NOT updating to any official ROMs that Sprint/HTC puts out. I didn't do it for the Mogul, TP OR TP2...not gonna start now.

So you have to do a backup and go back to 2.1 just to take a pic? Damn that ill stick with 2.1 until they get a fully functional one working.

Correct. It is only an assumption. I honestly think that the update is going to fix the three things listed and that's it.

Honestly, I'm coming from years and years of using Windows Mobile.

One thing I love about this phone is that I can just use stock and it works perfectly to me. So, I'll be doing the update.....
..... until I need my tethering fix, then its root time.....

I already have a backup...I just have to do a restore of the nand backup that's already there...I keep both ROMs setup the way I want...I can swap back and forth. It is not very smooth...but its a trade-off I'm willing to deal with

true, buy if you use the enable N wifi zip, then doesn't that break the camera? Where the update from Sprint would work along with the camera, and then if the wifi enhancement is N, then that also.

No, you're thinking of the FPS display issue.

Downloading update now.

Update: I have noticed a extra bar when it comes to WiF. I am about 30 feet from my router (in a diffrent room) and I have two out of three bars.

I am installing now and the phone rebooted and seems to be stuck on a screen with a white triangle with an orange exclamation point inside of it and an android dude underneath it.

Did you get this? If so, does it eventuallly install? Getting ready to go in to recovery mode if it won't boot up soon.

I was not watching mine that close but I do know that it rebooted about 3 times before the phone booted all the way.

Triangle with exclamation mark sounds like there was an issue...

Mine sat forever at a 4G screen, but I never saw the screen you are describing. Good luck.

No good, It starts the install and goes back to the error screen. It's probably because I am on a custom rom (OMJ) Anyone else able to do this update on a custom rom?
