There are 360 degrees in a circle so the implication is, at minimum, the Evo screen could be seen in landscape rotating to the left or right, portrait and portrait upside down. Reality is, my unrooted Evo can be viewed in landscape rotating ccw and in portrait. I'd call that 180 degrees.
Thanks for going slow for me, much appreciated... so I googled some info and found out that a complete circle is indeed 360 degrees as you note above, one quarter of that would be 90 degrees, right? Follow me so far??? Good... Ok, so now, if your phone is short side going left to right, and long sides up and down, we can agree to call that portrait right? OK, cool, we agree on one thing... So now, if you turn the phone to landscape (short side up and down and long side left to right) that's one quarter turn, or 90 degrees right?? I even used a calculator and couldn't come up with 180 degrees by turning it on it's side, one quarter of a turn, but hey, maybe Texas Instruments screwed up the software.

Ok seriously now though, if you're not happy with it, take it back and get the Iphone 4 or root it and be done with it already

If rooting it would solve the Sprint network issues in the two most important areas I utilize the phone in, I'd be there in a heartbeat. While the Evo has a few things I'm not 100% pleased with, it is certainly more than an adequate device. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Sprint network, at least in the areas I most use it in. Both must work well to have an overall satisfactory solution.
