EVO display has significant touch input lag? (video)

Here we go again... another screen issue?

In regular use, the EVO has been great imo, but if you use the touch sensor app, you can see it has significant lag when trying to follow your finger. I believe it's more than on other android devices.

This becomes even more apparent when you play a game like air hockey... it becomes extremely difficult to play because of the delay. I've compared it to another, smaller screened Android device and it seems to have a lot less lag compared to the EVO.

Does the EVO have more lag or is it because we have a larger screen and it just has more room for the normal lag to build up? This could be an issue for gaming.

Air hockey test is later in the video. Try it for yourself by downloading from the market too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5j7cYb7EtUM (xda thread)

(haven't seen a thread on PPCG for this issue, please close or merge if 1 already exists)

Re: EVO display has significant touch input lag? (video)

I think this is more of a issue with Android 2.1 more than the hardware...since this phone has a 1GHz processor.. It could be the screen, but I highly doubt it...we will see once 2.2 comes out later this year...I found out the Evo is limited to 30FPS for some reason due to 2.1...but is going to be addressed with 2.2.

Not 2.1. I did these same tests on my gf's Hero with 2.1 and it's SO much faster. I started to make a video of this same thing but never posted it.

@cicatrize do u think this is fixable by an update? or is it a hardware limitation?

Re: EVO display has significant touch input lag? (video)

I really don't know. My guess would be a hardware issue if those who are rooted and running 2.2 are still experiencing it. If not, definitely software. I'm not sure what kind of hardware issue would cause this though.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/10/h...pped-at-30fps/

Here is a article about this 30fps limit.

@Cictrize from the article the Hero has a 54fps avg. so maybe that is why your gf Hero is much better.

That may explain it, but does the hardware cap it or does the software?

Re: EVO display has significant touch input lag? (video)

I know what you are saying and I hope something can be done to increase this poor fps preformance. To me I would say it software, cause why would they build a phone this bad a$$ with poor hardware fps, but that is just me. So maybe they can unlock and uncrease the fps with an update.

Re: EVO display has significant touch input lag? (video)

it might not have to do with the fps thing at all... could be bad touch sensors?
