Thanks to Nutzy19 for this tip.

hold down the menu button, the keyboard pops up for you. so if you open an app or page that has the typing field at the top for example, you dont have to reach up there and tap inside to get the keyboard which i noticed needs to be done sometimes. you just hold menu key and keyboard pops up. This may be well known already, but just in case....

The Home and Search physical buttons also support dual input like the Menu button.

Hold the Home button to get the task / recent app switcher.

Hold the Search button to activate a voice search from (almost) anywhere, anytime.

Great thread! Very useful and should be stickied if you are willing to keep it updated.

One thing, unrevoked has been fixed so that the root is now "sticky" and will remain after a reboot. The version that was not stickied was only available for a few hours but was removed and the new "sticky" version was uploaded shortly thereafter.

Very good thread, and holding the home button is a very good tip. thanks for that! I've been trying to find the best way to switch between different tasks I'm doing on my phone.

Yeah the new one is "sticky" but because it automatically runs at each reset. Right?

Tap and hold within a text field to bring up the list of available keyboards. This is helpful if you have multiple keyboards installed and want to switch between them to adapt to different typing situations.

I asked this in one of the rooting threads, but it is also a good fit here. Should be in the first post if an answer is found...

Can anyone tell me how to backup my text messages so that I don't lose them when I root?

I am not even seeing a way to copy and paste them into a document or anything. Any Android vets know how I can go about saving them to the SD card, or emailing them somehow, or somehow sync them to the cloud, or even copy them to my computer?

Thanks but that's a no go. They are talking about copying stuff from WinMo to Android. I just need to copy to my storage card, the cloud, my computer, or even a copy and paste into some sort of notepad or something that I can then save on my storage card.

I found this:

It puts all of the text messages into gmail, so that will work.

I am not sure, though that would explain why unrevoked is running each time I reboot. Either way, the wording in the OP insinuates that it may be necessary for the end user to root the phone on each reboot when it's done automatically and the average user probably wouldn't notice if the root stuck or was being reapplied at each reboot. Nonetheless, thanks for the great thread and for keeping it updated!

I think it did need to be rooted after a reboot when it was first released but then they released an update that fixed it.

Yeah the update just has it run automatically at startup and reroot in the back ground, so you dont even know it. So not technically sticky.

anyways of removing all the facebook people from the dialer.
i would like to only have my phone contacts on there and not a bunch of wrong numbers.
i live in the US but most of my friends on facebook are not from the US and all the phone numbers are missing the country code and such... so its pointless to have that up there.
if anyone knows... thanks.

I stumbled across this at xda--apparently Android phones are set to search for a GSM signal as well as a CDMA one :dontknow:
Makes no sense to me but I read the below thread and applied the change as mine was set to GSM-auto.

As of yet I do not know of a way. People are talking about it however, if I see a solution posted I will update you.

Your choice of 'relaxation' aside...:)
Did you type it exactly like this:

*#*#4636#*#*

Reason I ask is when I tried it the first time I missed the *#*# in the beginning. Just tried it again and it worked fine.....

Wow that is so odd... I tried like 3 times before and now reading your post I try again and poof there is the menu, intresting what being super tired can do for you. Mine was set to CDMA but I will add this to the first post tomorrow that "test" menu has some sexy stuff in it. Thanks for the info!

If you read the linked thread, you'd see that it is a visual glitch. Once youre at the last screen, hit menu and select radio band which will cause a force close. Wait a second and then go back into the last screen. You'll see that its set to GSM-Auto. Select CDMA-Auto (prl) and you should be golden..
