#3: Dan Hesse is the freaking CEO, and he said 4G would not have an extra charge. We see he was wrong, so I doubt this rep's speculation holds any water. Especially since she was dead wrong on points 1 and 2.

Re: Sprint ok's FREE HOT SPOT on 2.2 and teethering

This has been said for a while that Froyo 2.2 was going to allow free mobile hotspot with the third party app. When i talked to the rep today they said they would not block such an app because they want to allow you to get the full benefits from this device and again, they don't to limit google's product. I almost got her to budge on that $10 as 4G is not even listed as coming to my area in the next six months, so who know when.

Re: Sprint ok's FREE HOT SPOT on 2.2 and teethering

PDANet doesn't actually support a WiFi hotspot type of operation. They are correct that it will only share the phone's connection over USB or Bluetooth.

As far as whether or not they will allow the built in WiFi Hotspot functionality in Froyo, as SaltyDawg said, they took HTC's hotspot app out of the TP2 ROM, so who's to say they won't do the same to Froyo? They even say in the article that "they can't make any assessments" about Froyo's hotspot app, so to me, that says "we don't like it and we're just going to make excuses until we can figure out how to block it"

I wasn't aware that the TP2 was advertised as a phone that could be a mobile hotspot before launch or after.

Re: Sprint ok's FREE HOT SPOT on 2.2 and teethering

It never was advertised that way, but HTC did/does have their own Wifi Hotspot app for WinMo phones. I know Sprint chose not to include it but I don't know if other carriers did as well.

In regards to Froyo 2.2, it has not been released yet, so we can['t] make any assessments on that particular application. Sprint has always communicated to its customers that it does not block apps. We want our customers to be able to get access to what they want and enjoy a true Web experience on their mobile device, although we cannot guarantee the performance a customer will experience with third-party applications
I lol'd at this...I mean who is gonna know better how to make an app the creator of the OS or Sprint >.>

Re: Sprint ok's FREE HOT SPOT on 2.2 and teethering

Sorry to my knowledge the htc app you speak of was offered as a download not in the rom. Sprint did block the windows mobile tethering ability but all it took was a registry hack to turn back on.
