Wimax and LTE will run along side each other. They will not dump Wimax, Sprint is just looking in to all areas to Compete in every way.

Not sure why any sound minded person would say SPCS would dump WiMax all together?!
Do some of Trumps throw $B's down the toilet that easy?

Well the LTE sprint is looking at will run on the same spectrum as wimax..which raises a few eyebrows...and also points that it may have to be one or the other...unless of course they plan to do wimax in 1 city and LTE in another then use hybrid chips on their cellphones, while this may be quite efficient..but does not seem economical so highly unlikely.

Re: Well.. this sucks for EVO 4G owners to be (including me)

From what I understood when this LTE on Sprint came around is that the company aims to provide dual 4G (both WiMax and LTE)... I'm pretty sure WiMax will be obsolete before LTE and Sprint may dump it but by that time, LTE will (or should) be up and fully ready

If they run both wimax and LTE in their spectrum it would be pushing their available bandwidth and they will loose out to AT&T and Verizon..

Wimax is not obsolete in front of LTE...each have their advantages and disadvantages...LTE though probably is better for cellphones in general but other things such as cable and home internet are better with wimax.

Hesse is on record saying that wimax wouldn't cost any more than current 3G service. Wimax IS costing you $10/month more on the Evo 4G and I suspect on any other wimax phone from now on.

No one is referencing the cost of 4g devices but rather the $10 fist job Sprint is tacking on the Evo just because it has 4G.

I'm getting tired of saying this.

Sprint is NOT CHARGING THE $10 BECAUSE THE PHONE HAS 4G. Why can't people get this? It's for premium data. AT&T did this same thing with the iPhone because they knew people would use more data on it, and people didn't bitch this much, even though it was $30 extra for "iPhone data".

Dan Hesse didn't lie. You people are just trying to find someone to blame, and I bet the $10 charge wasn't even his idea.

I agree with you 100%. I wish people would stop bitching about that damn $10 fee. I'm sure the phone is worth more than the retail of $199. Would you rather pay $399 for the phone and not have the $10 fee?

Wimax will not be obsolete. They are all ready testing new software which will upgrade Wimax to Wimax2 by year's end in 2012, and it will be backward compatible. Meaning phones like the EVO 4G will benefit from the upgrade.

So funny but so true. Now that i am on the premier program, i will probably find my evo outdated in a year when I compare it to the newest android 3.0 phone out, so this will probably be a non issue for most.

I don't get complaining about the $10 fee if you are coming from another network that costs more.
