Re: Sprint charging just to use basic Wi-Fi?

I think there is a $10 required add-on for the Evo and a $29.99 add-on for the wi-fi hotspot access.

When you consider how cheap their plans are compared to the others, a $10 add on for the Evo is nothing! Hell, even the $30 add-on for the 8 device hotspot access is reasonable. I'll never use that service, so that doesn't concern me.

The Evo is going to be an AWESOME phone and combined with Sprint's service plans, it is still waaaaay cheaper than AT&T or Verizon (with their CRAZY add-ons) and soooo worth it!

To activate the wifi radio on this phone you will have to purchase the wifi hot spot add-on for 30/month.

It says it right there on most of the text released by Sprint. Just like the $10/month required to actually own the phone.

If you seriously think this is not just a wording-error, or just mis-interpreted, then you must need help getting dressed in the morning.

Uh, it's on the Sprint documentation, and highlighted in the first post of this thread.

How could that possibly be a wording werror? LOL, it's pretty cut and dry. The exact text says:

"Sprint Mobile Hotspot add-on required to access Wi-Fi on device."

That is pretty cut and dry.

No idea, but it is wrong........... absolutely no way they would charge you $30 JUST to use wifi on the device.

To enable the hotspot service, yes. But not to use wifi on the device.

Yeah it sounds stupid. But it clearly says that is, in fact, what they are doing. And it certainly wouldn't be the first stupid thing Sprint has ever done.

there is no way they would not let the wifi work without paying for HotSpot. I think what they are saying is the wifi option for hotspot.
