If you don't want to wait for the Froyo OTA ...

... and you don't want to root, either, there's a ROM Update Utility (RUU) available since yesterday morning.

I installed it yesterday and it was painless.

You want to go here: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Incredible/

And download the one labeled: RUU_Incredible_C_Froyo_VERIZON_WWE_3.21.605.1_Radi o_2.15.00.07.28_2k4k_NV_1.50_PRL58006_release_1433 51_signed.exe

Then sync your phone with your computer, run the .exe, and wait for the magic to happen.

By all accounts this is identical to the OTA, although this will wipe your internal memory, where the OTA won't.

Probably a stupid question but, will I still get hit with the official O.T.A. if I install this? Will it effect future O.T.A.'s by installing?

I can't make any guarantees, but by all accounts this is identical to the official OTA. So few people have received the official OTA so far that I couldn't say if you'd get a notification while running this.

Incidentally, I should've given credit to Conflipper in my original post for hosting these files.

After some further reading, the consensus seems to be that if you use the RUU, you probably won't get hit with the OTA. If you DO get hit with the OTA after using the RUU, you should decline it.

If you do the 8/26 leaked RUU you don't need to do the OTA . You can get on with your life and not worry when the OTA will arrive.
I flashed the RUU and it works great , no bugs or glitches. Have everything that was advertised and using it , not waiting for it.

I did the manual upgrade, worked great. Scared for a second due to the circular arrows on my screen for over 5 minutes but then eventually booted up all is fine and dandy. I do have a question though. People are saying that it totally wipes your phone when you do the manual upgrade instead of the OTA one. My phone didn't get wiped and it tells me that I have Android version 2.2 Did I do something wrong that it didn't wipe my phone?

If you upgrade via RUU it will wipe your Incredible...if you download the zip file using this method ( How to manually update your Droid Incredible to Froyo | Android Central androidcentral.com/how-manually-u… ) it will not wipe your Incredible...

It is always best to wipe your phone before an upgrade , that way you start with a clean plate. If you have apps on your 2.1 OS that have not been upgraded to operate on OS 2.2 then you are going to have problems. You never want to dump a new system on top of an old one.

Agreed! I would suggest either the RUU or Manual SD upgrade over the OTA..But If you choose the Manual SD or OTA I would factory Re-Set phone after the update. I backed my apps up using Astro, I had no issue but I am sure that not all apps will work.
