Force 1x?

With every phone I've ever had with Verizon, I'd found that leaving the phone in 1x mode increases battery life significantly.

Does anyone know if there is/will be a way to force the Droid Incredible into 1x mode?

Even better would be a quick way to toggle back and forth, then I get the best of both worlds.

there is a widget built on my inc that i believe turns 3g on/off

it's found by long press on your screen, going to widgets > settings > and "mobile network" once the widget is there you can turn it on or off within a few seconds... i believe this is what you're looking for

someone correct me if i am wrong?

That sounds great. Do you have the Verizon inc? If not, we'll have to see if they build that in. Are widgets transportable between devices on Android? Then it wouldn't matter.

That turns off the 3G data network , it doesn't switch it to 1X.

Yes, i have the Verizon Incredible

And though it may not force it to 1x, turning off the 3g would probably significantly increase the battery life. Especially if you're on a borderline signal where it hops between 3g and not, as it keeps searching for 3g towers constantly, but if you turn it off it doesn't look for them anymore. Give it a try and see if it increases your battery at all.

Thanks for setting me straight too, jbh

Well, I hope it works. I'm sure, with all of the great support on the net, someone will help me get what I need.

Just got my Incredible on order. Sounds like it'll be a couple of weeks before I have it, but I'm looking forward to it!

Anyone else has any other ideas, please keep them coming.

Think I found a fix/shortcut

I've been having the same problem with my HTC Incredible (short battery life). I thought it might be that I have poor 3g service inside my office and wondered if there was a way to switch force 1x only.

I did a little search and found that I needed to access the CDMA options, however there is not an easy way to access the settings (at least not one I could find).

However I do have the Any Cut app, which allows you to make shorctuts to various settings that are not easilly accessible.

To make a shorcut on your home screen for the CDMA options, first download Any Cut (it's free) the go to Add to Home>Shortcut>Any Cut>Activity>CDMA Options>OK (for me there were two CDMA options and the one I wanted was first, the other is CDMA call options). Once you have the shortcut you'll want to click it and go to Mode of operation>1x only.

Now you should have forced 1x only and can switch back by selecting hybrid or EVDO-Only (3G).

Hope this helps!
