Re: Task killers are bad...

*shrug* needless to say, everyones mileage may vary. I do consider myself a "power user". I mean I am on this thing constantly, have every screen filled with widgets, etc. My ram gets low fast, but as long as I close out third party stuff with ATK, my ram stays above 100 MB and the phone runs great. Stopped using ATK for a couple days, ram got low and phone ran like crap.

While many people have made good cases for why a task killer may not be truly necessary, no one has really made a case for how they actually cause any problems or arent at all helpful, when used correctly, I.e.: not closing core, built in apps.

Task managers are great if you use them correctly..... I have no issues using one on my phone.

Re: Task killers are bad...

I actually did finally kinda figure out that there is a difference between hitting Back or Home. Seems to me hitting Back is closer to actually closing the app.

I agree. But, Hey! No one needs anyone else's permission or approval to use an app on THEIR own phone! (Unless it is a copyright/stolen/whatever... reason)

Re: Task killers are bad...

Definitely needed for me. You don't have to even kill everything but still, if I open 25 pointless apps my memory will be below 100, that said may still work fine - but there are still limited amounts of physical resources even though it's the latest and greatest. Not to mention I don't want 10 useless apps up if I am doing actual important work. I rather be able to use that extra ram for useful applications.

Testing something: Opened calculator, did a mathematical function (1+1) lol and used the back button. Went into my TM program to find the calculator still open. So how can you say using the back button or backing out of a program will clear it out of the ram? It's still running therefore with 100 open apps if you never closed them down or set it to automatically close when resources are needed.

just some thoughts.

I take back my last statement. I don't think you lose performance leaving it all open actually.
