Can someone walk me throught custom ROMs like I'm a five year old
 

I have a HTC Diamond....Sprint. I heard about custom roms and thought i would give it a look..Would someone please explain it to me..ie what are the benifits, how to load them.

Or at least give me a link that i can read about it.

After reading that the best idea is just to try it out. If you need day to day stable something like the older MightyROMs are good or my ROM has been treating me good. OMJ has done a hella good job on the Manila 2.5 which I like too. So it's up to you really.
